- A friend of mine has just completed a computer course and they covered web design so I think he should be able to do a site for me?
- A question we are frequently asked. It may well be that you know someone who knows a bit about web design but it is unlikely that he/she knows enough to fully understand what they are doing. You cannot build secure, functioning websites, which will work on today's Internet without investing in a great deal time learning the many aspects of web development. We have been developing websites and training end users since the mid 1990's. Our advice is get a professional who earns a living making websites to create your site.
- How much will it cost?

- I'm just starting up a new business. When should I consider getting a website built?
- Sooner the better! By registering your domain name and getting your website up and running, the search engines can start indexing your pages. It can take a few months before search engines add your site to their results.
- Why should I choose Format.ie as my web developer?
- We have been working within the IT industry since the mid 1990's. We have years of experience building websites which are engaging, fast loading and visible to the target audience. All our websites are standards compliant and conform to current accessibility guidelines and laws.
- What do I need to do once the website is up and running and what additional costs will I have?
- Once built, your site should not cost you anymore than the yearly fee for hosting it. However, you should factor in the time at work or home to monitor your website's success. Perhaps 2 hours per week could be allocated to continually improving your site's impact and reach. Format.ie offer hosting at cost. This can be a little as €25.00 per year. We also offer free updates to your site which take less than 10 minutes. Your domain name will need to be renewed every year or two years. A dot com domain is about €7 including VAT per year. A dot ie domain comes in a bit more expensive at €30 including VAT per year.
- How long will it take to build the website?
- A website can be turned around in a week. Generally, a site takes 3 weeks to complete. Getting the copy for the site (it's content) is the hardest part. A lot of our clients under estimate the time and effort required in creating good content for their site.
- How do we get to page one of Google?
- You can get to page one with a well coded and well optimized website with a large helping of continual monitoring and tweaking. Format.ie can discuss this in detail with you. Getting onto page one of Google is not rocket science, it's attention to detail and some hard work.
- Can we update the site ourselves?
- We can build you a content management system which will enable you to update your website from any computer on the Internet. Costs vary depending on the complexity of the website.
- How expensive is it to sell our products direct from our own website?
- Using a system like PayPal you can start selling online very quickly and without much cost at all. The cost will depend on how complex the shopping cart needs to be. In some cases a shopping cart is not required. You can sell one item at a time, take deposits online, or sell subscriptions to name but a few.
